Geneva school board candidate Moira Samuels has withdrawn from the race. She announced her intent in an e-mail to the Daily Herald. When asked via e-mail to discuss why she was withdrawing, she declined to be interviewed.
Help with tax preparation
Waubonsee Community College is offering free income tax assistance from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the college's Aurora campus, 5 E. Galena Blvd. The site will be closed March 25 and 28. Waubonsee students and volunteers will help prepare tax returns and file them electronically. Families can also get help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Assistance (FAFSA). Families with annual incomes of less than $45,000 and individuals with annual incomes of less than $20,000 are eligible for assistance. People seeking tax help should bring a copy of their 2007 tax return, if they have one; W-2 forms and 1099s from all 2008 jobs; Social Security cards for all family members; and a photo ID. Waubonsee parents night
Waubonsee Community College is hosting a parent's night From 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Event Room of the Academic and Professional Center on the college's Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. Parents of current high school students are invited to attend this free event that will feature speakers, campus tours, refreshments and a raffle for a $100 gift card. Hear flute recitals

Long Elburn tradition
St. Gall Catholic Church will host its annual St. Patrick's Day dinner from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday in the church hall, 120 W. Shannon St. (at Route 47) in Elburn. The tradition began 126 years ago. Carryouts will be available at the American Legion Post 630 at 112 N. Main St. Dinner includes roast turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, coleslaw, cranberry sauce, rolls and pie. Cost is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $4 for children aged 6-12.
