Aurora man charged with six felonies in 26 hours
A 54-year-old Aurora man remains hospitalized from injuries he received during an alleged 26-hour crime spree that police say resulted in several felony charges.
Scott Pini, of the 400 block of South Commonwealth Avenue, faces two counts of robbery and single counts of burglary, unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and DUI.
At 7:10 p.m. Thursday, police say, Pini approached a 32-year-old woman who was holding money from a withdrawal she had just made from a bank at a grocery store in the 1200 block of North Lake Street. Pini grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the exit until she released the money. After she let go, Pini ran to his vehicle and fled, police said.
His empty car was located a short time later in the 1000 block of East Benton Street, police said.
On Friday, police said Pini stole a 1996 Dodge Intrepid that was left unattended and running at a gas station in the 1100 block of East New York Street. He drove the car across town to a department store in the 1900 block of West Galena Boulevard.
At 8:30 p.m., he pretended to make a purchase at the store and made off with the cash drawer after elbowing the 20-year-old clerk in the face, authorities said.
At 8:42 p.m. that day North Aurora police caught up to Pini in the parking lot of Provena Mercy Center Hospital, 1200 E. Highland Ave., but he fled.
Aurora police eventually took over the chase and said they followed Pini through several near west side streets before he made his way toward downtown where he crashed the stolen car into two vehicles at Lake Street and Downer Place.
Four people who were in one of the cars suffered minor injuries. The other vehicle was parked and unoccupied.
Pini is still undergoing treatment at an Aurora hospital and is under police guard for injuries he received in the crash, police said. He will appear before a judge for bond call upon his release.
