Crash injures 1 in Wheaton

A Wheaton woman was injured after her car that collided with another vehicle near the DuPage County Fairgrounds, sending her bouncing off of mailboaxes, street signs and light poles.

Wheaton police said the 43-year-old woman's injuries were not life-threatening. She was transported to an area hospital following the crash that occurred just before 5 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators said the woman claimed not to have seen a westbound vehicle approaching when she turned off of Erie Street onto westbound Manchester Road. The impact of the crash caused the woman to lose control of her car, jump the curb, hit mailboxes, street signs and light poles before coming to a stop, police said. The other driver was uninjured.

The woman is expected to be cited for improper lane use and damage to city property, police said.
