Ill. prison on lockdown after inmate attack
LINCOLN -- State Department of Corrections officials say a prison in central Illinois remains on lockdown after an inmate attacked an officer.
Spokeswoman Januari Smith says a male inmate attacked a female correctional officer in the health care unit of Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln on Friday morning. She says a nurse was also hurt in the scuffle.
The officer and nurse were treated for minor injuries.
Smith says the inmate was transferred to the maximum-security Pontiac Correctional Center in northeast Illinois. Logan is a medium-security facility.
She says an investigation is ongoing and as part of normal procedure, Logan is under "level 1 lockdown," where all movement is restricted.
Smith says she doesn't know when officials will lift the lockdown.
