Response to Herald story on District 204

We would like to respond to the Daily Herald's March 3 article, "Six agree on new Dist. 204 victim's rights policy." First, we are very disappointed with the way the current District 204 administration and board of education has handled this issue. We believe the time between the parents going to the district and a resolution should have been measured in hours, not days and certainly not months. Further, we are in full agreement that the district needs to act and create a comprehensive policy to address all situations with regard to student safety and victim's rights. We applaud Curt Bradshaw, the sole board member to take action and at least start a discussion. However, the district's own lawyer has commented that "the policies we have in place are adequate." If that is the case, why have we still seen no action?

We are also very unhappy with Daily Herald reporter Justin Kmitch's statement that we declined to return calls. We were busy meeting with the community on this and other issues during the day, while also working at our "day jobs." Don Moscato and Doug DiFusco tried multiple times to return calls. Mr. Kmitch told Jerry Huang he would call back at a certain time and did not. Eric Hepburn was never contacted.

It should also be noted that Mr. Kmitch might not have been able to reach Eric Hepburn, Don Moscato, Jerry Huang and Doug DiFusco in the evening, because, along with Michael Crockett, we were the only candidates to attend a meeting held at the residence of Karl and Michelle Kordes to discuss the current situation, school safety and district policy going forward. Perhaps the Daily Herald should have covered this story, as the Naperville Sun deemed it important enough to place on its front page.
