No interst in problem solving

As Congressman Peter Roskam's constituent, I was disappointed that he and, indeed, every Republican in the House failed vote for the economic recovery bill.

The Republicans seem oblivious to the seriousness of our nation's financial situation and unable to think beyond tax cuts as the solution to whatever the current issue. Tax cuts have been shown over and over again to be inequitable and ineffective, especially those directed more the few at the very top rather than to the many lower down.

He doesn't seem to see the irony in decrying the national debt and budget deficits when the Bush administration squandered President Clinton's budget surplus and added dangerously to our overall nation's indebtedness?

Finally, for the Republicans to vote as a bloc in both the House and Senate on an issue so important simply shows that they are not committed to solving problems but rather to power politics. To bet the nation's economic health against wanting an issue for the 2010 elections is reprehensible. What I want to see is enlightened responsibility and earnest action to solve problems.
