Syrup from a tree, not a bottle

The Schaumburg Park District's popular Sugar Bush Fair will return for its 24th year from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 14 at the Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road.

At the annual event, visitors are shown how maple sugar collection was done by both Native Americans and European pioneers for maple syrup production. There will be hands-on demonstrations, a children's puppet show, hayrides and syrup sales.

"It is definitely a one-of-a-kind experience for this area; an opportunity to learn about and see how maple syrup is made, and then to sit down to a delicious breakfast under a big tent," Spring Valley Manager Dave Brooks said.

General admission is free, but tickets are required for a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, juice, coffee and real maple syrup. The cost for a half stack of pancakes is $3.50 in advance or $4 on the day, and $4.50 in advance for a full stack or $5 on the day.

Because the event is held outdoors, attendees should dress for the weather.

Parking is available at both Spring Valley and Olympic Park, 1675 E. Old Schaumburg Road, with a shuttle bus running continuously between the two. (847) 985-2100.
