Hawks again avoid 4-game losing streak

The Blackhawks still haven't lost more than three games in a row all season.

They averted their first four-game losing streak Sunday by beating the Los Angeles Kings 4-2 at the United Center.

"You lose three in a row and it gets your attention," Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "Our home record recently hasn't been very effective. We had such a good stretch early on in the year we wanted to re-establish our home-ice presence.

"The game still was on the line throughout and we stuck with it and did what we had to do. I thought we checked well and played smart."

The Hawks had lost two in a row at home and were 1-3-2 in their last six at the UC.

"There some lapses in the game where we didn't play our best, but it was nice to finally get a win at home and give the fans a salute," Duncan Keith said.

"I thought we came out and played a very solid game all around," said Dustin Byfuglien, who scored his 11th goal. "We played well early and stuck to our game plan."

Martin Havlat turned in another strong performance with 2 assists, extending his points streak to eight games on 3 goals and 10 assists.

Let's make a deal: Multiple sources claim the Hawks might be willing to part with James Wisniewski, Cam Barker or Jack Skille to get what they want before Wednesday's trade deadline.

The Hawks' wish list is believed to include an experienced center and a defensive-minded defenseman.

A source close to the Ducks said Anaheim general manager Bob Murray is listening to offers for center Sami Paulsson, although Paulsson presently is sidelined with mono and awaiting another visit to the doctor Tuesday. The Ducks play the Hawks Tuesday at the United Center and had several scouts at Sunday's game, including coach Randy Carlyle.

Another center believed to be of interest to the Hawks is Buffalo's Tim Connolly, although the Sabres are trying to re-sign him.

Never say never: The Hawks still haven't given up hope of catching Detroit in the Central Division even if they still trail the Red Wings by 11 points.

"If Chicago keeps playing like they did with that kind of energy and quick moving of the puck, they will move up in the standings," Kings coach Terry Murray said.

Tip-ins: The Hawks won 58 percent of Sunday's faceoffs, with Dave Bolland going 11-5, Colin Fraser 8-5 and Jonathan Toews 8-6. - Bolland's goal was his 15th of the season. - Aaron Johnson and Craig Adams were healthy scratches. - Sunday's crowd of 21,386 marked the Hawks' 27th straight sellout.
