Man tied to fatal Florida hit-and-run remains jailed
The Hoffman Estates man tagged a playboy by British media will spend the next several weeks in Cook County Jail.
Ryan LeVin, 34, appeared in a Skokie courtroom Thursday for a probation violation unconnected to the fatal Feb. 13 hit-and-run Florida authorities say involved his Porsche.
LeVin's attorney, Michael Norris, said his client was ordered to a 120-day drug and alcohol counseling program. LeVin was jailed without bond Monday after Circuit Court Judge William O'Brien learned LeVin had been kicked out of a Florida drug treatment group.
His next court appearance is April 9.
LeVin, whose family owns Schaumburg-based Jewels by Park Lane, had been given 30 months probation for a June 2006 case in which he hit a police officer and led police on a chase on the Kennedy Expressway.
Police in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., have said they believe LeVin's Porsche was involved in the hit-and-run crash there that killed two British businessmen. The vehicle was found damaged and abandoned on the expressway.
LeVin has not been charged or named a suspect in the crash, which Florida authorities continue to investigate.
