Entire Republican slate claims victory in Nunda Township

It was a clean sweep for the Team Nunda election slate.

Incumbent Nunda Township Assessor Dennis Jagla handily defeated Alan Weaver in Tuesday's Republican primary.

At the same time, slate mates and incumbents Tom Palmer and James Schlader and newcomers Kelvin Jennings and Joni Smith won the right to carry on their campaigns for township trustee.

According to unofficial results, Jagla won by a 2-1 margin. Early voting had not been factored in as of press time.

Jagla will be on the April 7 ballot. There are no Democratic challengers, and no write-in candidates have surfaced.

"I'm glad I have the opportunity to serve the people one more time," Jagla said.

The four Republican trustee candidates now face Democrats Patrick Murfin and Meredith Reid Sarkees in the race for four seats in April.

The candidacies of Richard Meyers and incumbent Kevin Sarnwick, who both ran for trustee, are over.

The Team Nunda slate pledges fiscal responsibility, quality road maintenance and accessible local officials.

Nunda Township includes the southern edge of McHenry, the northern third of Crystal Lake and a portion of Island Lake.
