Need more leaders, not ethics laws
This is in response to the Feb. 9 Fence Post entry from Illinois Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John President Cullerton.
Oh Please. Give the people of Illinois a rest. More ethics laws?
Instead of writing more laws why don't you begin practicing what was most likely instilled in you in your youth by your parents, grandparents and other family members? Or perhaps all of you have forgotten what ethics means. Webster's still publishes dictionaries, and here is a definition is for you: Ethics: n.pl. 1. A system of moral principles. 2. The rules of conduct recognized in respect to a particular class of human actions or a particular group, culture, etc. e.g. medical ethics; Christian ethics 3. Moral principles, as of an individual. 4. That branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions.
We don't need more laws that mean nothing in practice. You are elected officials by the people of the State of Illinois - so called leaders. Let's try something new - act like it.
Between the executive branch, the lawmakers, politicians and run-amok legislation from the bench of our judicial system in this country, it is time to get back to some very basic elements of who we are as human beings - it's in our character development - it is called a conscience. If you don't have a very good conscience or if it is underdeveloped, then perhaps a priest, protestant minister or rabbi can help you to either find the one that you used to have or help you to develop one! By all means let's start now.
