Speer's attacks on Roth are unfounded
It is sad to see how far local candidates in nonpartisan elections are trying to politicize these elections and playing on the voter's ignorance with misinformation about the operational running of our municipality - Streamwood.
For Jason Speers to use the Internet to imply that our village president, Billie Roth, is responsible for the initiatives brought to the Village Board is extremely deceptive on his part.
Obviously, he must not understand the role of the Village Manager or the annual goal setting sessions by the department heads and trustees to set each year's goals and objectives to be achieved. Also, Jason must not know how to lobby his fellow trustees nor can he count to four. Four is the number of trustees needed to support village proposals.
Having served our community as a previous trustee, I find Speer's accusations offensive and misleading. Early in Billie Roth's presidency, she established the precedent of only voting if there was a tie vote in the Village Board. If she truly had the vested interest in the initiatives presented to the board as Speers insinuates, then one would assume she would vote on each one. Speers not only insults the village president's integrity but that of his fellow trustees.
I have to question what his motives are running for the office of village president with so little experience or understanding of the role of the position. What has he done for our community? I find his challenge more egotistical than based on legitimate reasons.
There is an old saying, "If it's not broke, don't fix it." Under the Roth presidency, we have not seen our property taxes increased, our streets are repaired and maintained, and public safety has been increased with more police officers and fire personnel.
Voters today do not care for negative campaigning, what they want to hear is what candidates stand for and believe in. Mudslinging is outdated; do not underestimate the intelligence of our residents who turn out to vote.
