Vernon Hills man remains jailed on robbery charge
A Vernon Hills man remained in the Lake County jail Thursday in connection with a robbery last week at his home.
Benjamin Butler, 25, is held on $500,000 bond on charges of armed robbery, aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and possession of a hypodermic needle after police say he robbed a delivery man Feb. 12.
Butler's girlfriend, Donna Craft, 23, was charged with obstructing an officer and released on her own recognizance in connection with the attack at their apartment on the 200 block of West Court of Shorewood.
Police said Butler confronted a sandwich shop delivery man and robbed him at knifepoint of the food and money. A scuffle ensured and the victim was sprayed with a chemical irritant, police said.
According to police, Butler fled but was apprehended by Libertyville police as he tried to board a commuter train. He also was wanted on warrants for domestic battery and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, police said.
Craft was charged for giving incorrect information regarding a cell phone number.
Both are scheduled to appear in Lake County circuit court March 9.
