Barrington police, schools warn against 'stranger danger'

Police and school officials in Barrington are urging parents and school children to exercise extra caution after a suspicious man has been twice reported near a school in the village in recent days.

According to reports, the lone white man drives a green sport-utility vehicle and has made inappropriate comments to female students walking by while he's remained sitting in his vehicle.

The two reported incidents occurred on Roslyn Road and near St. Anne School.

In a joint statement issued Thursday, the Barrington-Inverness police, Barrington Unit District 220 and St. Anne School are asking students and parents to be extra vigilant.

Students are encouraged to travel in groups or wait at the bus stop with their parents or friends. If approached by a stranger, they should call 911 immediately and try to obtain a license plate number if the individual is in a vehicle.

If you have questions or need more information, call police at (847) 304-3300.
