Wright School lauded

Daniel Wright Junior High School is the first junior high school in Illinois to be named a Physical Activity and Fitness Demonstration Center by the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. The award recognizes the Lincolnshire school's commitment to increasing the levels of physical activity of young people, according to a news release.

Food for fines at Lake Villa District Library

The Lake Villa District Library is offering a "Food for Fines" program this month. The library will accept nonperishable, non-expired food items as payment for new or existing fines. The offer does not apply to lost or damaged items. Patrons should bring the food to the circulation desk. The items will be donated to the Lake Villa Township Food Pantry. The offer ends Feb. 21.

Sanitation course offered

The University of Illinois Extension in Grayslake will offer a food service sanitation certification course in March and April. A certified manager must be on duty at any food-service businesses under state law. The courses will be offered March 31, April 1, April 2 and April 3.
