Traffic stop, tussle in Schaumburg lead to gun, drug charges
A man found with a loaded handgun tucked in his pants and about a half-pound of marijuana in the car he was riding in got into a violent tussle with two Schaumburg officers before being arrested, police said.
DeAngelo M. Radford, 20, of the 1000 block of Dickens Way in Schaumburg, was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and felony marijuana possession, along with battery to and resisting a police officer, both misdemeanors.
Neither officer was injured in the scuffle but Radford got a small cut on his forehead, police said.
Police said an officer had seen the car in which Radford was riding commit two traffic offenses on South Springinsguth Road just after midnight Monday and pulled the car over in a nearby residential area.
According to a news release, Radford appeared to hide something beneath his seat and was removed from the car, at which point police discovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the waistband of his pants. Radford then attempted to flee on foot, after which police said he "violently struggled" with the officers.
Authorities then discovered under Radford's seat what they said was more than 230 grams of marijuana with a street value of about $6,000.
Radford's bond was set at $30,000.
