Peaceful protest
Gurnee police officials said no one was arrested or injured during a union protest in the parking lot at Gurnee Mills Tuesday morning. The protesters, who rallied against nonunion workers being used during construction of the new Nieman Marcus Last Call Clearance Center, originally picketed in one of the Gurnee Mills parking lots before being moved to public land on Grand Avenue, Gurnee police officials said. Officials said between 50 and 100 union protesters were on hand early Tuesday.
Legacy letter tips
Information on legacy letters, including how to write one, will be presented from 1:30 to 3 p.m. today at the Lake County Health Department's caregiver education support group meeting. A legacy letter is a nonlegal, nonbinding document written for family, friends or employees and includes personal values, beliefs and life lessons. The meeting is at the Warrant Township Senior Center, 17801 W. Washington St., Gurnee. Call (847) 377-8097.
Vernon Hills senior plan
The Vernon Hills planning and zoning commission will host a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. today regarding a plan for affordable senior housing. Pathway Development LLC is requesting rezoning and several variations to village code to build 231 units of senior housing and supportive living in two buildings at the southwest corner of Phillip Drive and Atrium Drive. Pathway is seeking variances for the number of units, building height, setbacks, parking and minimum square footage of the units. The meeting is at the Vernon Hills village hall, 290 Evergreen Drive.
