Voter registration deadline

March 10 is the last day to register to vote in the April 7 election, DuPage County Election Commission officials said. The commission is offering in-home registration assistance for the elderly and disabled. It also offers assistance on Election Day for those who have difficulty getting to their polling place. Services for disabled adults

Parents of children with developmental disabilities who are worried about what happens when their children leave high school can learn more about what services are available for adults at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Ray Graham Association for People with Disabilities, 2801 Finley Road, Downers Grove. Tax help available

Taxpayers with incomes of less than $42,000 may receive help completing their 2008 federal and state income tax returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 28, March 7, March 21 and March 28 at Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson St., Naperville. The site is staffed with volunteers from the Notre Dame Club of Greater DuPage, North Central College and Benedictine University. The help is free. Participants should bring proof of identification and tax information such as W-2 forms, 1099 forms, copies of tax returns for 2007, bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit of refunds, and any other relevant income and expense information. Lombard candidate forum

The Lombard-Villa Park League of Women Voters will sponsor a candidates forum at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 at Lombard Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave. The forum begins at 7 p.m. Since many candidates are running for offices, only those in contested races will participate in the main forum. Those candidates who are running unopposed will be invited to give a brief statement at the end of the evening. Each group will be featured for 20 minutes, starting with Lombard Elementary District 44 candidates, followed by DuPage High School District 88, Helen Plum Library Board and village board candidates.

Balladeers will perform

The Battlefield Balladeers will present a special after-hours program at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Villa Park Public Library, 305 S. Ardmore Ave. The ensemble specializes in songs of the Civil War era. The program is being presented by the library as part of its celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. Anyone wishing to attend should call the library at (630) 834-1164 to ensure sufficient seating.
