Batavia dance teams earn accolades at competition

The Batavia High School varsity and junior varsity dance teams competed in the Oswego East TeamDanceIllinois regional competition on Jan. 28.

The varsity team received a state qualifying first place in Open Pom, a state qualifying first place in Open Dance and a wild card second place in Hip Hop. The TDI State Championship takes place at the Peoria Civic Center on March 7. The team continued its successful season at the UDA National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, Fla. on Jan. 30, competing in the semifinals there with a Hip Hop and Open Pom routines.

The JV Dance Team received three trophies at the Oswego East Competition. Team members earned a first-place trophy for the Hip Hop Routine, a third-place trophy for Open Pom and a third-place trophy for Open Dance.

The team's high scores have placed it in the running for the Junior Varsity Elite Placement, determined at the end of the season.
