Woman charged after squad car is rear ended
A Warrenville woman was charged with DUI after police say the car she was driving rear-ended a squad car with its emergency lights on in Bartlett Friday night.
Bartlett authorities said the marked police vehicle was stopped in the outside traffic lane on southbound Route 59 near Pebble Beach Drive at about 11:30 p.m. Friday when it was struck by a gold Toyota Corolla station wagon driven by Holly H. Hayek, 49, of the 3S500 block of Burk Avenue.
Neither the driver nor the two officers in the police vehicle were injured.
Hayek was cited for misdemeanor DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
Bartlett police Sgt. Michael McGuigan said the squad car had been stopped along Route 59 behind another squad that was awaiting a tow truck for a vehicle that had stalled in the road.
McGuigan said the squad car that was struck had minor damage.
Hayek was released on $100 bond and is due to appear in Cook County court March 6.
