2 hurt in crash near Elburn

An Elburn man was ticketed after a two-vehicle crash in unincorporated Kane County sent both drivers to the hospital, police said.

The crash took place about 4 p.m. Thursday on Hughes Road east of Green Road in Blackberry Township, near Elburn.

According to a police report, an eastbound pickup truck driven by Michael Ciccone, 40, of Elburn, drifted onto the shoulder of the road, then swerved back and skidded sideways into the oncoming lane of traffic, striking the passenger side of a westbound car driven by Joanne H. Smith, 34, also of Elburn.

Both Ciccone and Smith were taken to Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Department.

Police said Ciccone was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions and improper lane use. He was released with a March 25 court date.
