Addison officer injured in crash
A police officer was injured late Tuesday following an accident at the corner of Lake Street and Swift Road in Addison, authorities said Wednesday.
The officer was heading west on Lake Street about 9:30 p.m. with the emergency lights on his squad car activated when he hit a minivan heading south on Swift, Addison police spokeswoman Megan Freeman said.
It's unclear if the officer - who police did not name - was heading through a red light with his emergency lights activated, or if the minivan ran a red light and hit the officer, Freeman said.
The officer, who was headed to assist another officer regarding a separate incident, suffered a broken hand in the crash.
Two people were in the minivan, Freeman said.
The minivan passenger and the police officer were taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. Both were treated and released, Freeman said.
The driver of the minivan was treated at the scene and released, Freeman said.
It's unclear how fast the squad car and the minivan were going at the time of the accident.
Citations have not been issued and the crash remains under investigation, Freeman said.
