If both listen, there might be progress
Barbara J. Muehlhausen, in her letter, does make some interesting points. She asks if a pro-life argument can be made with no mention of religion. It's a fair enough question. Fellow pro-lifers, time to wake up. The fact is, using Bible quotes or saying "God says..." when defending the value of life is preaching to the choir and falls on deaf ears.
The time is now to show the logic behind the pro-life side of the abortion argument. While "a couple of cells" being life is debatable to some, there's no question that it will become life. If it wouldn't develop into a baby, there would be no need for abortions.
Muehlhausen also asks why pro-lifers don't picket fertility clinics. It's not a bad suggestion, to be honest. While the pro-life crowd has responded to fertility clinics, it hasn't been nearly loud enough.
But now, I must ask Muehlhausen why feminists don't focus more on popular culture and prostitution. The whole point of the feminist movement was to give women equal rights and show that they could be self-reliant. But I have seen almost no response from feminists over the way rappers speak about women. Feminists should be outraged that there are so many people out there who would have us believe that the only value of a woman is her body.
There will always be cases of incest, rape, and a pregnant woman's life being at risk, but if pro-lifers stop beating their bibles and anti-lifers stop bashing the bible, and everyone agrees to listen to the other side a little more, we can help President Obama deliver on his promise to make abortions available, but rare.
