Police want help finding suspect in Addison shooting

Police were searching Monday for a man considered armed and dangerous who is charged in a recent Addison shooting.

Authorities said Martin Tapia-Aguilar, 24, is believed to still be hiding out in the suburbs. His last known address was an apartment on the 100 block of South La Londe Avenue in Addison.

Tapia-Aguilar is wanted on aggravated battery with a firearm charges.

He is accused of shooting a 28-year-old Addison man twice at point-blank range about 7 p.m. Feb. 3 in a parking lot at 437 S. Addison Road after a dispute arose over money.

Addison Detective Commander Mark Van Stedum said the victim survived two gunshot wounds, in the arm and chest, and has been released from the hospital.

"He's very lucky," Van Stedum said. "He probably turned at the right second. The bullet missed all of his vital organs."

Detectives developed Tapia-Aguilar as a suspect within an hour of the shooting. A DuPage County judge signed a $50,000 warrant for his arrest Feb. 4. He remains at large. Two other armed suspects, whose identities are not known, also are wanted for questioning.

Police said Tapia-Aguilar was last scene fleeing in a red minivan. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Addison Police Department at (630) 543-3080.
