Wauconda man gets prison in drug overdose death
A Wauconda man was sentenced to six years in prison Thursday after he admitted giving a Lake Zurich woman the drug that led to her death.
Jason Brasic, 25, pleaded guilty to unlawful delivery of a controlled substance during a hearing before Lake County Circuit Judge Fred Foreman.
Assistant State's Attorney Scott Hoffert said Brasic, of the 1100 block of Jackson Avenue, supplied methadone to Raquel Carmona, 20, sometime during the morning of Jan. 13, 2007.
Carmona was found dead in her bedroom by her mother on the afternoon of Jan. 15, and her boyfriend led police to Brasic.
Police said Brasic was arrested after he admitted giving Carmona a dose of the narcotic used to treat people for heroin addiction.
Brasic was also originally charged with drug-induced homicide, but Hoffert agreed to drop that charge in exchange for the guilty plea.
Hoffert told Foreman he had discussed the plea agreement with Carmona's family, and they had approved the negotiation.
