Lake in the Hills man sent to jail after admitting to child porn charge

A 60-year-old Lake in the Hills man was sentenced to six months in the McHenry County jail Thursday after admitting guilt to allegations federal authorities found child pornography on his computer during a 2006 raid.

Joseph P. Chuffo, of the 1200 block of Sycamore Street, pleaded guilty to a possession of child pornography charge under a deal in which McHenry County prosecutors dismissed a more serious charge alleging he had distributed an undisclosed number of computer images depicting children in sexually explicit situations.

Chuffo must also serve 30 months probation, pay a $500 fine, undergo treatment and register as a sex offender after his release. He is eligible for day-for-day credit for good behavior while in jail, meaning he could go free in about 90 days.

Agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security raided Chuffo's home in July 2006, about nine months after German National Police forwarded information that they had downloaded child pornography from an Internet Protocol address later traced to the Lake in the Hills man.

Chuffo's attorney, Gary Johnson, declined to comment after the guilty plea.
