Home Alone II: LITH woman jailed again on endangerment charges
Barely two weeks after she was sentenced to probation for leaving her 6- and 1-year-old daughters home alone while she went to a bar, a 27-year-old Lake in the Hills woman was back in jail Thursday morning, accused of doing the same thing.
Randi L. Losch, of the 2600 block of Melbourne Lane, was arrested early Thursday on two counts of endangering the life or health of a child alleging she left the girls home alone for at least three hours late Wednesday and into early Thursday morning.
Losch, who also was charged with DUI, appeared Thursday morning on the new charges in a McHenry County courtroom, where a judge set her bond at $5,000. She remained in custody at the county jail late in the day.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Lake in the Hills police, Losch left the girls without adult supervision from at least 10 p.m. Wednesday to 1:17 a.m. Thursday while visiting a liquor establishment in Crystal Lake.
The charges are misdemeanors for which Losch could be sentenced to up to a year in jail and fined as much as $2,500. County prosecutors also could move to revoke the probation sentence she received last month, exposing her to additional jail time.
Later Thursday afternoon. Losch's mother obtained a temporary order of protection on the girls' behalf, barring any contact with their mother for at least three weeks.
In a petition seeking the order, Losch's mother states she fears for the children's safety if their mother is allowed to regain custody. She states that she plans to seek custody of the older daughter while the young girl's father is flying in from Las Vegas to take custody.
Thursday's arrest comes 16 days after Losch pleaded guilty to two counts of endangering the life or health of a child stemming from a June 19 incident in which police said she left her two girls home alone to go searching for her boyfriend at a local tavern. The boyfriend eventually came home to find the girls alone and their mother nowhere in sight.
Besides a two-year probation term, Losch was ordered to undergo counseling and pay a $500 fine.
At that time Losch's attorney called her actions of last summer an "isolated incident" and that an investigation by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services had found her to be a fit parent.
Losch also faced an aggravated battery charge alleging she kicked a police officer during her June arrest, but that felony charge was dismissed as part of a plea bargain.
She is scheduled to return to court Feb. 24 on the new charges.
