Driver airlifted after one-car crash in Fox Lake
One person was injured Friday morning when the SUV he was driving lost control, crashed over a guard rail and landed on its roof in a retention pond in Fox Lake, fire officials said.
The driver, whose name was withheld by fire officials, was flown Flight for Life to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with nonlife threatening precautionary reasons, Fox Lake Deputy Fire Chief Larry Van Hoorelbeke said.
The accident occurred about 9:45 a.m. on Route 12 at the Hartigan Road intersection, in front of the Volo Home Depot.
Hoorelbeke said the Chevrolet Silverado went over the guard rail while heading east on Hartigan and landed on its roof at the bottom of a six-foot water retention pond.
It remains unclear why the SUV suddenly swerved into the retention pond, Hoorelbeke said.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.
