1 hurt, 17 arrested at Aurora party

Aurora police say 17 people were cited Sunday for alcohol violations after an underage drinking party Saturday night.

Public information officer Dan Ferrelli said officers responded to a home in the 2800 block of Woodside Court just before 1 a.m. Sunday after several 911 calls were received saying numerous people were fighting outside the residence.

Upon arrival, he said police discovered a 20-year-old Sugar Grove man lying in the street, suffering from facial injuries.

Ferrelli said numerous people were inside the home, but none would respond to repeated requests to answer the door.

Because officers found the injured man, along with various witness statements that the individuals originally fighting had weapons, they entered the home through an open rear door, Ferrelli said.

Although no one appeared to be injured inside, police discovered 15 of the occupants were under the age of 21 and all had been drinking alcohol.

Police arrested two 21-year-olds in the house at the time and charged them with contributing to the delinquency of minors. They are James A. Gust of the 400 block of Erickson Court in Elburn and Catherine A. Wheeler of the 43W800 block of Beith Road in Maple Park.

The owners of the home were out of town at the time and did not know of the party, police said.

The 20-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital and has since been released.
