Elderly man dies in Wauconda crash
An 80-year-old Wauconda man was killed Thursday in a two-vehicle crash on Route 176, Wauconda police said.
Logan Lundren was heading south on Church Street about 3:30 p.m. when his car was struck by a vehicle driven by Ismael Barrerra, 39, of Huntley, who was westbound on Route 176, police said Friday.
Police said as Lundgren stopped at a stop sign at the intersection, then was crossing Route 176 when the accident occurred. The preliminary investigation indicates Barrerra's vehicle had the right-of-way at the intersection, police said.
Lundgren was taken by ambulance to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, officials said, but died after arriving there. Lake County Coroner officials said Lundgren died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Barrerra was not hurt, officials said.
Wauconda Police are conducting a more in-depth investigation into the factors surrounding the crash, with the assistance of the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) of Lake County.
Police officials said no one has been cited for the accident, and preliminary indications are Lundgren failed to yield to Barrerra's vehicle. However, the investigation remains open to determine if additional factors contributed to the crash.
