Children escape Lake in the Hills fire unhurt
A fire at a Lake in the Hills home Wednesday afternoon caused smoke damage but left the two children unharmed, officials said.
Algonuin-Lake in the Hills firefighters responded to a 3:55 p.m. call on the 1100 block of Halfmoon Gate in Lake in the Hills.
Arriving on the scene, firefighters found smoke coming out of the second-floor windows of the home.
The children reported seeing smoke and hearing the smoke detectors go off.
The children exited the home and called 911, officials said.
Carpentersville, Huntley and Rutland-Dundee and Crystal Lake fire departments assisted the Lake in the Hills Fire Department. The fire was extinguished by about 4:20 p.m., according to a news release. The fire's cause and its estimated damage are currently unavailable, officials said.
