Fire destroys garage, vehicle in Warrenville

A fire in a Warrenville garage on Sunday afternoon destroyed one vehicle and damaged part of the adjoining house, fire officials said.

The fire broke out just after 3 p.m. at the home on River Oaks Drive, said Commander Eric Ermer. Two people were home at the time of the incident and escaped before the fire department arrived, Ermer said.

The home was ruled uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire is unknown and Ermer said initial reports of an explosion were inaccurate. Ermer said the explosions that were heard when police first arrived on the scene were likely vehicle tires popping.
