Firefighter hurt in Oakwood Hills blaze
A firefighter was injured when he was whacked with a hose during a late Saturday afternoon incident in Oakwood Hills in McHenry County.
No other injuries resulted from the small fire that was reported at 5:44 p.m. at the house of Jason Howes, 5403 Burwood Lane in Oakwood Hills. Cary Fire Department Lt. Mike Douglas said the flames located in a wall between a bedroom and exterior wall were under control in about 10 minutes.
While trying to extinguish the flames, said Douglas, one of the firefighters was smacked in the head with a hose. Douglas said the firefighter suffered a cut under his eye and was treated at the scene.
Douglas said the house mostly sustained smoke damage. He said an investigation into the cause of the fire will continue, but it's not believed to be suspicious.
Firefighters had to use water from at least three tanker trucks because Oakwood Hills doesn't have hydrants.
