Man arrested after standoff in McHenry

A 22-year-old man was taken into police custody following an early Saturday morning standoff in McHenry, authorities said.

Responding to a 911 call from a neighbor, police arrived about 1:20 a.m. at a house on the 3500 block of West Vine Street.

While officers were trying to get someone to answer the door, they received another 911 call from a woman who claimed that a man inside the house earlier waved a gun and fired two shots at people who were in the garage.

At that point, police established a perimeter around the home and tried to contact the man with cell phones and loud speakers.

After the man refused to respond. police entered the house and arrested him without incident. Two women who were inside the home also were arrested.

Charges are pending, authorities said in a written statement.

It's unclear whether anyone was injured before the police officers arrived. A small amount of blood was found on the door handle of the house, police said.

McHenry police were assisted by the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System, a SWAT team that serves McHenry County.

Roads that were closed during the standoff reopened around 7:30 a.m. It's unclear how long the standoff lasted.
