Free coin appraisal

First Choice Bank in Geneva will have a coin expert doing free appraisals from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 1900 W. State St., Geneva. Do not clean the coins before appraisal.

Relay for Life Kickoff

Cancer survivors and their families and friends will kick off the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Aurora from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Eden Supportive Living Center, 311 S. Lincolnway in North Aurora. Anyone who wishes to form a team or volunteer to plan the event is invited. The event celebrates the lives of those with cancer and remembers loved ones who have died. Relay for Life will be held from 6 p.m. May 15 to 6 a.m. May 16 at McCullough Park in Aurora. Call the American Cancer Society at (630) 879-9009 or visit relayforlifeaurora.com.

Charity poker game

Geneva American Veterans Post 75 and Provena Geneva Care Center are holding a charity Texas Hold'em poker tournament at 6 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Legion hall, 22 S. Second St., Geneva. The buy-in is $100. If 100 players attend, first place will win $2,000. "Re-buys" will be allowed during the first hour of play. A cash bar and food will be sold starting at 5:30 p.m. Register and pre-pay by Saturday to receive 200 bonus chips. Credit cards, checks and cash are accepted. Batavia business workshop

Join small business owners for a free workshop, "Team Up for Success!" at 8 a.m. Thursday at the Congregational Church of Batavia, 21 S. Batavia Ave. Participants will work in small groups to identify ways to link together to promote their businesses. The United Way of Central Kane County has money available for local 501(c)(3) charitable agencies. For an application, call (630) 377-1930 or e-mail stcuw@yahoo.com. Applications are due Feb. 20. Organizations that serve residents of St. Charles, Elburn, Geneva, LaFox, Kaneville, Campton Hills and Wasco are eligible.
