Meet D300 board members

Residents can meet Community Unit District 300 school board members at three upcoming business expos: The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Home and Business Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Jacobs High School; the Northern Kane Home and Business Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 7 and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 8 at Liberty Elementary School in Carpentersville; and the Hampshire Home and Business Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 14 and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 15 at Hampshire High School.

Celebrate Lincoln's 200th

Community members are invited to celebrate Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday in style at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Gail Borden Library, 270 North Grove Ave., Elgin. The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, together with the Elgin Choral Union and the Elgin Children's Chorus, will perform. Birthday cake, baked by Elgin Community College's Culinary Arts and Hospitality Institute, will be served.

Sheriff's scholarship available

McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren will award a $500 college scholarship this year to a local student through the Illinois Sheriff's Association. The recipient must be a resident of McHenry County who will be attending a college or university in Illinois during the 2009-10 academic year. Applications, available at the sheriff's department in Woodstock or online atilsheriff.org, must be returned by March 13. In all, the state association will award more than $53,000 in scholarships this year.

Park district hosts bingo

The Huntley Park District is hosting bingo for park district residents 55 and older. Bingo will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 3, March 3 and April 7. The free games will be hosted in the REC Center, 12015 Mill St. Refreshments will be provided. Call (847) 669-3180.
