33 Kaneland students receive state scholar nod

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission has announced this year's 2008-09 Illinois State Scholars.

The Illinois State Scholar Program recognizes Illinois high school students for outstanding academic achievement. The commission announced that 33 Kaneland High School students have been named Illinois State Scholars.

This is a prestigious award. These students are among "the best and the brightest" of the more than 150,000 high school seniors in the Class of 2009. The combination of their exemplary college entrance examination scores and record of high school achievement indicates they have a high potential for success in college.

The following Kaneland seniors qualify as a State Scholar: Emma Anderson, Daniel Arnold, Jessica Arnold, Lindsay Bartel, Andrew Collins, Kevin Durrenberger, Samantha Eichelberger, Ashley Girard, Sally Gorenz, Devin Mae Heath, Rebecca Holloman, Michael Jenny, Emily Kenkel, William King, Casey Komel, Meghan Krajewski, Anna Limbrick, Jeff Malewig, Sarah Otterness, Kelaine Patterson, Michael Pritchard, Scott Proctor, Jacqueline Ream, Anna Rossi, John Rotella, Kristen Sanecki, Jonathon Shaddelee, Megan Schiber, Daniel Spence, Emily Tockstein, Zachary Tolan, Santiago Tovar and Colin Zagel.

Students ranking in the top 10 percent of the state's high school graduating seniors have been named Illinois State Scholars. Selection is based on ACT and/or SAT I tests scores results (including the Prairie Sate Achievement Exam) and class rank at the end of their junior year of high school.

While the program does not provide a monetary award, the designation as an Illinois Sate Scholars can be added to applications for college admission and scholarships.
