String of burglaries worries Naperville neighbors
Police are investigating a rash of residential burglaries in and around the Wildflower neighborhood in west-central Naperville.
There have been seven such incidents since Nov. 29, Cmdr. Dave Hoffman said. He said burglars entered through rear or patio doors and took jewelry, electronics and firearms.
All the houses were unoccupied at the time.
"There's some evidence offenders are monitoring residents leaving and that's how they determine their targets," Hoffman said.
Burglaries have occurred in the 2600 block of Lexington Lane, 800 block of Lamont Court, 2400 block of Three Farms Avenue, 1600 block of Ambleside Circle, 600 block of Caraway Court, 2500 block of Lexington Lane and 700 block of Wildflower Circle.
Police are providing additional patrols but Hoffman would not discuss other steps being taken or possible suspects.
Residents actively have been communicating via an Internet chat group about what they have seen and heard and ways to make their neighbors aware of what has happened.
Alison Fox said they also plan to pass out fliers.
"We're being more vigilant for sure," she said. "Every time we leave we're leaving on a zillion lights, telling our neighbors we won't be home, helping out extra."
Some neighbors report being suspicious of people ringing their doorbells, wondering if it's merely a ploy to find out if someone is home.
"We encourage anyone who has been a victim or sees suspicious activity to call the police," Hoffman said.
