Lisle police nab burglary suspect

A Lisle man has been charged with stealing items from a car after police said they tracked him by following his footprints in the snow.

Police said Trent M. Owen, 28, of 1651 Robin Lake, was apprehended about 2:15 a.m. Sunday after allegedly stealing items from inside a car parked in the 1000 block of Jonquil Avenue.

He was charged with one felony count of theft and two misdemeanor counts of theft and transported to DuPage County jail.

Lisle police said they found Owen after receiving a report of a suspicious person lying in front of a vehicle on a residential driveway. The call said the suspect was wearing dark clothing and carrying a backpack, police said.

When confronted by the vehicle owner and resident, police said the suspect fled south on foot into the 5200 block of Oakview Drive. When they arrived at the scene, officers located fresh footprints in the snow heading south on Oakview Drive and leading to several unoccupied vehicles in a private driveway.

Police said they followed the footprints, which led to the rear of an Oakview residence, through a backyard and along a fence line toward Main Street.

The officers found Owen lying in the snow behind a shed, reports said.

Police said they also found several stolen items, including two iPods and several CDs in the backpack Owen was carrying. Reports also said Owen had a large amount of loose change in his pocket.

Both iPods in Owen's backpack were stolen, police said - one on Nov. 18 in the 5500 block of Riverview Drive, and the other on Jan. 8 in the 500 block Gamble Drive.

In addition, the CDs in the backpack were tied to several vehicle burglaries that occurred the same evening in the 5100 block of Main Street.
