Worker hurt in Schaumburg chemical spill

A hazardous material leak in a Schaumburg industrial park caused one minor injury Tuesday afternoon before being sealed.

The incident occurred at a business on the 1000 block of National Parkway, Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said.

A tanker truck carrying a toxic substance believed to be sodium hydroxide developed a leak that caused minor injury to the truck driver who came in direct contact with it, officials said.

The material is not airborne and the leak was confined to the parking lot of the business itself, he added.

Schaumburg firefighters who responded to the scene were able to seal the leak.
