Randhurst mall's last sale this weekend
If you want a piece of the Randhurst Shopping Center, this is your chance.
The Mount Prospect mall is selling a variety of items from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, and Saturday, Jan. 17, in the former Steve & Barry's store.
Holiday decorations, office equipment, gift wrapping and tools will be on sale with proceeds donated to Northwest Suburban High School District 214 and the Mount Prospect Fire Department, said Lisa Blaszinski, property manager.
What won't be on sale is Randhurst memorabilia because that has been given to the Mount Prospect Historical Society.
And don't expect to see the Venetian carousel that the mall bought in 2005. A California shopping center purchased it and moved it to its new location.
Judging by pre-sale inquiries, the most popular items are the people sign holders, Blaszinski said.
People have been calling about these two-dimensional adult caricatures with a place for a placard or poster ever since plans for a sale were first announced in October, she said.
Also, 6-foot-tall holiday twin bears appear to be high on many shoppers' lists. If the bears don't piqué your interest, there's an assortment of stuffed bunnies and snowman figurines that graced various Easter and Christmas displays down through the years.
The exact prices of the items still have to be hammered out, but the range is between a buck and $100.
Some of the items might be so popular, the mall may hold a silent auction so customers don't fight over their favorite items, she said. That decision will be made later in the week.
Bring cash, because credit cards and checks will not be accepted.
The mall's owner, Casto Lifestyles Properties, is gutting the main mall, but keeping the major tenants that are attached to it and the ones on the perimeter roads. The redevelopment plan calls for a number of restaurants, a hotel and 25 smaller buildings to be scattered around the site. The AMC Theatres will be relocated. The plan allows for rental dwellings units to be built some time in the future if the developer chooses.
