Crews clean chemical spill in Addison

Crews spent roughly eight hours Friday cleaning up about 250 gallons of chromic acid that spilled from a 450-gallon tank in an industrial building on the 1200 block of National Avenue in Addison.

The spill was reported around 7:30 a.m. and was cleaned up by early evening.

Portions of the building were evacuated and no injuries were reported, police said.

The spill was contained to the building and rear parking area, plus one adjoining property, by the fire department's hazardous materials team.

A hazardous materials mitigation contractor performed most of the work.

Authorities said notifications of the spill were made to the village's environmental services department and building department. The Environmental Protection Agency also responded.
