Chemical spill in Addison

Addison fire and police officials are working to clean up 250 gallons of chromic acid that spilled from a 450-gallon tank around 7:30 a.m. today inside an industrial building on the 1200 block of National Avenue.

The building was evacuated and no injuries were reported, police said.

The spill was immediately contained to the building and rear parking area, plus one adjoining property, by the Addison Fire Department's hazardous material team.

A hazardous materials mitigation contractor was on site and is expected to have the clean up completed by 5 p.m., police said.

Officials said notifications of the spill were made to the village's environmental services department and building department. The Environmental Protection Agency also responded.
