Arlington Heights
• Burglars stole the batteries out of three Freightliner box trucks at Value City, 40 W. Rand Road, between 5 p.m. Dec. 31 and 8 a.m. Jan. 1, and smashed the windshield on one truck. Total loss was estimated at $1,250.
• A woman was pickpocketed around 2 p.m. Dec. 30 at a market on the 100 block of East Algonquin Road; loss was estimated at $230.
• Burglars broke into a 2008 Nissan Altima and 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck in a condominium lot on the 1200 block of South Old Wilke Road overnight Jan. 2-3; a GPS unit was stolen out of the Nissan and a navigation/DVD system, camera and laptop computer out of the Dodge. Total loss was estimated at $5,245.
• A 2004 Nissan Titan pickup truck on the 100 block of East Lillian was broken into overnight Jan. 2-3; a $300 GPS was stolen.
Des Plaines
• Charles Isaac Kito Justes, 23, of the 800 block of Hillcrest Drive, DeKalb, and Vuong Q. Quach, 23, of the 3100 block of Fairhaven Lane, Lake in the Hills, were arrested around 2:45 a.m. Jan. 4 on the 2100 block of Sherwin Avenue. Justes was charged with traffic violations; Quach was charged with possession of marijuana. Their court date is Jan. 20.
• Derek M. Burger, 24, of the 2100 block of South Chestnut Street, Des Plaines, was arrested around 8:05 p.m. Jan. 3 on the 2300 block of South Mannheim Road and charged with traffic violations and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. His court date is Jan. 20.
• A cell phone, two chargers and a GPS unit were stolen out of an unlocked 2008 Ford Focus on the 1700 block of Illinois Street between 8:10-8:40 a.m. Jan. 3; loss was estimated at $290.
• Burglars climbed through an unlocked kitchen window at an apartment on the 700 block of Fifth Court between midnight and 6 a.m. Jan. 3 and stole prescription medications and money. The occupant was asleep in a bedroom at the time; loss was estimated at $200.
Elk Grove Village
• Vandals stuck cloths into the gas tank of two village-owned 2000 Ford Crown Victorias parked at village hall, 1000 Wellington Ave., and lit them between 4 p.m. Dec. 29 and 1:45 p.m. Dec. 30. Fire burned the car and gas tank area on one car; burn marks were made on the trunk of the second car. Total damage was estimated at $2,000.
• Omer W. Akhtar, 21, of the 1500 block of Sandburg Drive, Schaumburg, was arrested around 10 a.m. Dec. 30 at his home and charged with theft; his court date is Feb. 10.
• A 1999 Honda Accord on the 1600 block of Oakton Street was broken into between 7-8 p.m. Jan. 1; a GPS unit and two phone chargers were stolen. Total loss was estimated at $410.
• A 2002 Dodge Caravan on the 2800 block of Touhy Avenue was broken into between 7:10-7:50 p.m. Jan. 1; a suitcase containing clothes and souvenirs was stolen. Total loss was estimated at $500.
• Someone broke into a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta on the 400 block of Bonnie Lane between 7-11:20 a.m. Jan. 1 and stole the in-dash radio/cassette player; total loss was estimated at $700.
• A 2005 Dodge Caravan and a 1997 Nissan Sentra on the 1000 block of Touhy Avenue were broken into between 6 p.m. Dec. 29 and 6 a.m. Dec. 30. A toolbox was stolen from the van but was found on the ground nearby; damage was estimated at $1,500. The in-dash radio/CD player was taken out of the Sentra; total loss was estimated at $1,200.
• A 2004 Toyota Sienna minivan on the 700 block of Perrie was broken into between 7 p.m. Dec. 29 and 6:50 a.m. Dec. 30; a GPS unit was stolen. Total loss was estimated at $600.
• Four tires were stolen off three trucks at Alside Supply Co., 1470 Mark St., between 2:16 p.m. Dec. 26 and 6:30 a.m. Dec. 29; the tires were valued at $2,000.
• Someone stole a purse out of a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer on the 500 block of Rutgers Lane between 9-11 p.m. Dec. 28; loss was estimated at $300.
• Someone broke into a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am on the 500 block of Eagle Drive between 8 p.m. Dec. 29 and 12:20 a.m. Dec. 30, pried off the stereo faceplate and stole a wallet. Total loss was estimated at $730.
Mount Prospect
• Vandals smashed a window at an apartment on the 1100 block of Wheeling Road around 12:35 a.m. Jan. 2. Damage was estimated at $300.
• Someone broke into a 1998 Dodge Durango on the 1200 block of Boxwood Drive overnight Jan. 2-3 and stole a dash-mounted DVD system; total loss was estimated at $450.
• Outside walls at three apartment buildings on the 1400 block of Brownstone Court were vandalized with graffiti Dec. 30-Jan. 3; damage was estimated at $300.
• Vandals slashed four tires on a 1999 Volkswagen sedan on the 1700 block of Chariot Court between 6 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Jan. 1; damage was estimated at $250.
Rolling Meadows
• Anthony J. DeNotto, 17, of the 300 block of South Circle Drive, Palatine, and Mitchell R. Baker, 17, of the 600 block of Middleton Avenue, Palatine, were arrested around 1:20 a.m. Dec. 28 on Algonquin Road at Tollview Drive. DeNotto was charged with two counts possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal use of weapons, driving under the influence and traffic violations; Baker was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor and obstructing police. Their court date is Jan. 30.
• Alexander Bautista, 26, of the 600 block of Bode Circle, Hoffman Estates, was arrested around 3 a.m. Dec. 28 and charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, disobeying a stop sign and failure to give information after a crash. Police say he crashed his car into a ComEd utility pole on Central Road at Barker Avenue and ran away; officers found him through the car's license plate number. Police say he turned himself in at the police department; his court date is Jan. 23.
• Victor Carachure, 22, of the 4700 block of Arbor Drive, Rolling Meadows, was arrested Dec. 28 and charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident and not having proof of insurance after his car struck two parked vehicles in the apartment lot on the 4700 block of Arbor Drive. His court date is April 4.
• Someone smashed the front glass door at La Flor De Izucar Bakery, 2204 Algonquin Road, between midnight and 3:35 a.m. Jan. 3, broke open the cash register, and stole an unknown amount of money, prepaid phone cards valued at $2,000, and several food items.
