Do we really need two senators?

The only reason Gov. Blagojevich filled the senate vacancy was no more than an attempt to improve his approval rating, and it seems to have worked, at least with Bobby Rush.

Roland Burris may be a good person but let us not forget that he lost the last five times he ran for office, including once as U.S. senator.

He said we need a second senator to protect our interests, yet we do not know where he stands on any of the issues to be resolved. This will be a two-year appointment at best and will probably be in the courts for most of that time - so how is he really helping us?

All we will see are legal fees paid by those he claims to want to represent. They claim that we need a second senator, yet we have done OK the last two months without one.

Let us not forget that we really only had one senator for the past 18 months while the other one was looking for another job. What did Obama bring to Illinois in the four years he was looking out for our interests?

In the Jan. 1 paper, there was an article about how we needed a second senator to cash in on all the federal funding. Where was all the federal funding the last two years when we had two senators that Illinois needed for roads, etc.?

The Democrats are so afraid that a Republican would win a special election that they are dragging their feet in Springfield.

This is nothing but business as usual even though I doubt the Illinois Republican Party could get its act together and come up with a viable candidate.

The Democratic mantra for the past 18 months has been change. I don't see it.
