Village honors retiree
The village of Buffalo Grove on Monday honored retiring Battalion Chief Paul Tierney, who's leaving the fire department to become chief of the Beach Park Fire Department. Tierney has been with Buffalo Grove for 33 year since he joined as a firefighter in March 1975. He moved up in the ranks and was promoted to battalion chief in 2002. "It's certainly a great honor working in the community I grew up in," Tierney said Monday.
Palatine Stables wins award
The Northern Illinois Hunter Jumper Association recently recognized Palatine Stable with its 2008 Horse Show of the Year Award. The Palatine Park District-run stable hosted a three-day horse show in August. Trainer Toni Bruns was named the organization's Horse Person of the Year and junior rider Kristen Munch was presented with a sportsmanship award for her attitude and conduct throughout the horse show season.
St. Hubert's rededication
Bishop George Rassas of the Chicago Archdiocese will be on hand Sunday, Jan. 11, for a special Mass to rededicate St. Hubert Catholic Church in Hoffman Estates. The church opened in 1967 and just underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation. Sunday's Mass begins at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a reception. The church is located at 728 Grand Canyon St.
