Hawks adjusting without Kane

The power play didn't appear as dangerous without Patrick Kane, but otherwise the Blackhawks got along fine without their leading scorer in Sunday's 5-2 victory over the Calgary Flames.

The power play was a good enough 1-for-5 with Dustin Byfuglien scoring from in front with two seconds to play in the second period.

The Hawks worked the left side more with Martin Havlat along the half boards. The power play is normally more right-handed with Kane on the right half boards.

"We made some adjustments with our power play and I think that's something we'll continue to try," Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "Hopefully we don't have to keep trying. Hopefully we'll get Kaner back and get back to where it was."

The Hawks have yet to confirm that Kane has a high sprain to his right ankle, and it's likely they won't now that the NHL says teams aren't required to disclose injuries.

If Kane does have a high ankle sprain, it's potentially a bad scenario. Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby missed 28 games last season with a high ankle sprain.

Right now the Hawks are listing Kane as day to day, and the plan is for him to accompany the team on its three-game road trip that starts Tuesday night in Arizona against the Coyotes.

"He's day to day and we'll give you a clearer idea (Monday)," Quenneville said. "We expect him to be coming on the road and we'll get a better idea then."

Five different Hawks scored goals against the Flames in Kane's absence.

"He's a huge loss up front, especially on the power play," Kris Versteeg said. "Anytime you can get goals like we got in front of the net, it definitely helps."

Olympic camp: According to ESPN.com's Pierre LaBrun, the United States Olympic camp will be in Chicago on Aug. 16-20. The camp will help determine the American team for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. There was no word from the Hawks whether the camp would be at the United Center.

Praising Khabibulin: The Flames felt the play of goalie Nikolai Khabibulin was the difference in the third period, when they outshot the Hawks 20-8.

"Khabibulin made a number of good saves, especially in the third period when we came back and almost got within 1 goal," Flames captain Jarome Iginla said. "In the first period we could have changed the momentum of the game, but he stopped me point blank in front of the net."

Khabibulin is 21-5 lifetime against the Flames and also beat them four times in the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals.

Tip-ins: Cam Barker was a healthy scratch. ... Adam Burish returned to the lineup after missing 16 games with a broken toe. ... With a goal and assist, Martin Havlat has 8 points in the last five games. ... Patrick Sharp's goal was his 20th of the season.
