Arson suspected in Bloomingdale fire
A Monday morning fire that damaged a Bloomingdale house might have been deliberately set, authorities said.
No one was injured in the blaze at 306 Sheffield Drive, which was reported at 7:13 a.m.
Officials with the Bloomingdale Fire Department and the DuPage County Fire Investigation Team are investigating. On Tuesday, police said the incident may have been an arson.
"What we're trying to do is rule out all accidental causes first," Bloomingdale Fire Chief Dave Christensen said.
When firefighters arrived at the house, they found a heavy blaze in the rear of the house, predominantly in the kitchen area, Christensen said.
No one was inside the home at the time.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the first floor. Fire and smoke damage was contained that part of the house.
Authorities say the house is inhabitable. Still, an undisclosed number of residents have been displaced, Christensen said.
An exact damage estimate hasn't been determined, officials said.
