Briefs: Property crimes in Campton

Campton Hills police are investigating several recent property crimes, officials said Monday. Several mailboxes were run over Sunday night in the Fox Mill subdivision, possibly by a Monte Carlo. On Friday, graffiti was discovered on a sign at Farmstead Park. There also have been three vehicle burglaries reported recently on the north side of the village. The Kane County Clerk's Office of Vital Records will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and closed Thursday. Call (630) 232-5950 for more information.

Buy books, help kids

Shoppers at the Borders bookstore at 1660 S. Randall Road in Geneva can give $1 or more with their purchase to the Geneva school district's literacy programs. The Holiday Literacy Donation program is sponsored by State Librarian Jesse White and the Illinois Literacy Foundation. It runs through Wednesday.

The Batavia Public Library will close at noon Wednesday and be closed Thursday.

Batavia, Geneva tree disposal

Batavia residents can get rid of their natural Christmas trees for free the weeks of Jan. 5 and 12. Remove all decorations and put them out at the curb. They will be picked up on your regular garbage day. After Jan. 16, you will need to put a yard waste or refuse sticker on the tree to dispose of it. In Geneva, trees will be picked up free the weeks of Jan. 12 and 19.

Environmental summit on tap

DuPage County residents concerned about the impact local traffic has on the environment are encouraged to attend the sixth annual DuPage Environmental Summit. The summit will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 8 in the Krasa Center at Benedictine University in Lisle. The free event will include a mix of presentations on "Greening Our Transportation and Roads" by industry experts. Attendees must register by Jan. 6.
