Bartlett cops charge shooter

A 38-year-old South Elgin man was given a $100,000 bond after police say he fired a gun in a residential area. David Gordon, of the 400 block of Marin Drive in South Elgin, was arrested Saturday and charged with felony aggravated discharge of a weapon, Bartlett police said. Authorities said Gordon fired the gun around 5 p.m. Dec. 13 on the 100 block of Tatge Avenue. Gordon returned to the site of the shooting on Saturday, and officers found a gun in his vehicle, police said. No one was injured, and police say they're not sure of the motive.

Objection filed in primary race

Schaumburg Township Highway Commissioner Robert Fecarotta has filed a candidacy objection to his challenger in the Feb. 24 Republican primary, John A. Salmassi of Roselle. The contest is currently the only reason to expect polls to be open anywhere in the Northwest suburbs on primary day. The objection filed Monday cites 14 reasons, several questioning whether all the signatures on Salmassi's petition belong to registered voters of the township. Another reason claims Salmassi is a registered Democrat who's never filed a change-of-party form. Representatives of the Cook County Clerk's office said people don't legally register for parties in Illinois apart from how they file their candidacies, but confirmed Salmassi did request a Democratic ballot in the February 2007 primary. Township officials must call a hearing on the objection in the near future. The rules of candidacy can differ from one local government to another, according to the clerk's office.
